Wat Pakla in the Songkhla province is one of the oldest temple with an estimated existence of 220 years.
The temple is famous for its Phra Buddha Larpdumrong, the sacred Buddha image mostly revered and respected by the locals around.
This temple has a huge number of followers from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
As a legend, it is believed those who visit and pray here, their wishes come true with good fortune and luck after praying the Buddha image, Phra Buddha Larpdumrong. The vicinity of the temple is surrounded by canals and paddy fields.
On February 29, the followers and disciples of Lp Klom installed a dedicated six-meter tall statue for Chief Abbot Phrakru Weera Khemakhun (Luangpo Klom Khemawiro) also known as Lp Klom for his astounding service to inspire Buddhist followers from around Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. The official prayer ceremony will take place on April 12.
Lp Klom was a teacher before turning into a Buddhist monk, popularised this old temple by sharing Buddhist dhamma practice, meditation, chanting, and most importantly his famous metta, karuna, mudita and upekkha (loving-kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity) to all sentient beings.
According to one of his close disciples, Lp Klom was a wandering monk, practicing meditation in the forest till he had a vision in his dream to build a temple situated on a hill, which now has been a popular temple not to be missed.
He is popular for his kindness (metta) and for helping those in difficulties. Lp Klom also does charity to those in need especially funding for education, welfare, and eradicating poverty.
Most recently, Lp Klom has allocated 13 acres of land to build a university within the temple vicinity as a mission to continue Buddhist teaching.
Monks from Thailand and other countries visit this temple as a congregation and learn knowledge and wisdom.
In Malaysia, one of the long-time followers Miss Annie and Miss Sally have been devout followers of Lp Klom. They even have started a center known as ‘Happy Home’ here in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.
For those who like to meditate and take time off from the bustling daily life, visit the serene holy place with such reverence of Phra Buddha Larpdumrong.
