The Art+ Contemporary Gallery in Bangsar Village is presenting an exquisite exhibition, the “Echoes” from March 7 till April 10 as part of to commemorate International Women’s Day.
“Echoes”, honouring the diverse voices and experiences of women through the lens of contemporary art brings together a diverse group of six female artists by showcasing their remarkable works and unique talents.
The exhibition is a testament to the diverse artistic expressions that women bring to the forefront of the contemporary art scene.
Their works, spanning various mediums and themes, serve as powerful reflections of their individuality and creativity.
The exhibition introduces a lineup of female artists:
Erica Eng, Law Siew Poh, Margaret Lau, Mulaika Nordin, SC Chin, and Sofia Haron.
Through a curated selection of artwork, the exhibition aims to create a space where viewers can engage with the rich tapestry of female narratives.
The artworks on display celebrate the multi-faceted nature of femininity and the power of art to transcend boundaries.
Abstract artist Mulaika Nordin in commenting her artwork, “My two paintings showcased at Echoes, ‘The Cure’ and ‘Pangs’, reflect a return to myself both in terms of techniques and subject matter.
“I believe it’s important for women and everyone for that matter to be able to return to themselves.
“People express feelings in different ways and painting is a way of communication to me. It is natural and involuntary almost.
“So much of the emphasis on industries that focus on women are about the first layer, but if you’re able to go deeper, you’ll be able to understand what beauty really is and you’ll find something that resonates with you.”
Mulaika Nordin, a second year law student rose to prominence in 2019 at the age of 16, participating in a solo exhibition at the National Visual Arts Museum (Balai Seni Visual Negara).
In December 2021, Mulaika yet again made her second solo exhibition at KEN Gallery, Kuala Lumpur showcasing her art “I Know You’re Somewhere So Far” featuring 60 works of art.
While addressing issues of mental health, the exhibition explored themes of disconnect and isolation from the lens of an empathic teenage artist as she navigated a changing environment culminating in the period of the global pandemic in 2020.
Mulaika has travelled to iconic art galleries in France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia and Australia, inspiring and reflecting her artwork.
