International Conference: The History of Old Kedah based on Yi Jing’s notes brings together domestic and foreign historians

Kuala Lumpur – – A total of about 500 researchers, academics and historians from local and abroad participated in the International Conference on the History of Old Kedah based on Yi Jing’s notes organized by the National Museum and National Archives Department in collaboration with the Malaysian Han Cultural Association.

The opening ceremony of the conference was officiated by Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of National Unity at M Resort & Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

This conference is organized to bring together Historians to share and present the latest findings related to the History of the Bujang Valley (Old Kedah) through the sources of Yi Jing’s records.

In his notes, Yi Jing describes Old Kedah as a developed trading center and its people have a rich and unique culture.

This conference is held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations in 2024.

This International Conference involves four (4) paper presenters from China, two (2) moderators and two (2) keynote speakers, each from Malaysia and China.

In addition, this conference also aims to complete the National History in a more concrete way through an external source that is believed to be authentic.

This includes a more comprehensive comparison based on the latest findings in the field of historical and archeological research in the country.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said, “The Ministry of National Unity through the Malaysian Museums Department and the National Archives of Malaysia are the two agencies responsible for researching, collecting, and preserving national treasures whether in the form of material, records, manuscripts, etc.

The preservation of evidence of history and civilization is very important to continue so that future generations know and love the country based on historical facts.”

Through the cooperation between these two departments, understanding and findings strengthen the facts of the country’s civilization which is able to add value to the history of the country.

In addition, a mini-exhibition was also held through the appreciation of National History and heritage in empowering Unity, Elements of Identity, Patriotism, as well as the vitality of the Nation’s civilization.
