Malaysia Airlines and One-MICHELIN-Starred Chef Darren Chin Team Up to Bring Travellers on a Sensory Journey through Chiang Mai

Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia Airlines and one-MICHELIN-starred Chef, Darren Chin, have teamed up to take holiday-seekers on a culinary journey to explore the captivating wonders of Chiang Mai through a multisensory campaign in anticipation of the airline’s inaugural route to Chiang Mai beginning 15 August 2024.

In conjunction with the launching of the new destination, Malaysia Airlines is introducing an original documentary travel series ‘Time for Chiang Mai with Chef Darren Chin’, which intricately portrays Darren Chin’s journey in bringing the region’s dishes to life.

The series is designed to immerse travellers on a multi-sensory journey to explore the sights, sounds, smells and taste of Chiang Mai’s vibrant cultural tapestry.

The first episode of the 4-part video series was launched at an exclusive dinner event held at Gai by Darren Chin, which featured a custom menu; transporting guests on a gastronomic adventure to Northern Thailand.

Speaking at the event, Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer (Airlines) from Malaysia Aviation Group said, “We are thrilled to announce the commencement of flights to Chiang Mai, marking a significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen our role as the gateway to Asia and beyond.

“This new service marks our 16th ASEAN destination, underscoring Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to expanding our network, welcoming inbound tourists, and enriching the travel experiences of our passengers.”

“Partnering with Chef Darren Chin enables us to showcase Chiang Mai’s rich culinary heritage while inspiring travellers to explore this captivating destination.

By connecting taste with travel, we highlight the shared rich culinary and cultural experiences from our main hub in Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai.

We invite travellers to fly with Malaysia Airlines to discover the diverse cultures and stunning attractions both destinations have to offer,” added Dersenish.

Among the menu highlights served during the dinner at Gai by Darren Chin were Khao Soi Gai as a table starter, Northern Kingfish Larb Salad as a bite-sized appetiser; Fried Banana Blossom, Wild Red Coral Trout in ‘Hor Mok’ Farce, Songkhla River Prawn and Aged Duck Supreme in ‘Kheng Tet’ Northern Spice as main course.

The evening concluded with delightful desserts including Padanus Pudding in Coconut Cream and Egg Custard Sangkaya with Sticky Rice, leaving everyone eager to discover more of Chiang Mai’s cultural and culinary treasures.

This route will be operated by the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with flights scheduled five times weekly from 15 August 2024.

Tickets for the Chiang Mai service have been available for purchase since 22 March 2024.
