Malaysia to Launch National Cybersecurity Academy to Boost Digital Talent by 2025

Malaysia is set to launch its first Cybersecurity Academy in 2025, as announced by CyberSecurity Malaysia under the Ministry of Digital. The initiative was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on September 23.

This academy aims to address the growing need for cybersecurity professionals by offering courses centered on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), marking a key step in advancing Malaysia’s digital talent.

The academy will play a crucial role in filling the gap for skilled cybersecurity professionals, offering a variety of short and medium-term certification programs. By aligning with TVET principles, the academy will also foster talent development, not only within Malaysia but with an international scope.

In his statement, Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo expressed his optimism about the future of the academy.

“The establishment of the Cybersecurity Academy marks a significant milestone for Malaysia. It is not only a response to the increasing demand for cybersecurity professionals but also a step forward in making our country a global leader in cybersecurity. This academy will empower the next generation of digital talent with the skills needed to tackle future challenges and fortify our digital defenses.”

It aims to position Malaysia as a global cybersecurity hub by providing world-class training and emphasizing ethics in digital security to strengthen individual awareness against digital threats.

According to a study conducted by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the demand for cybersecurity professionals is projected to reach 26,430 by the end of 2025 and 28,068 by 2026. With a recorded 16,765 cybersecurity personnel as of July 2024, the new academy is poised to bridge this gap, offering specialized training in areas such as incident response, cybersecurity governance, digital forensics, and cryptography.

The academy is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2025, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
