KLANG: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticized certain parties for continuing to make baseless accusations against him.
The Prime Minister stated that issues from decades ago were being resurfaced with the intent to slander and tarnish his reputation.
“You can insult me all you want… I’ve been insulted for decades, called a Jewish agent, an Israeli agent, accused of having relationships with men and women… the only thing left is to accuse me of having relations with cattle.
“So, you want to insult… it doesn’t matter. But let’s do it with decency and ethics. You know the rules. If you want to bring up cases, I can explain them, but I prefer to move forward,” he said.
Also present at the event were the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke; the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari; and the Executive Chairman of Westports, Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam Abdullah.
Commenting further, Anwar stressed that no matter what kind of insults he receives, he is committed to ensuring the country’s political stability so that the government’s policies can be successfully implemented.
“This is Madani, governance must be sound. The old ways of handling contracts, stealing here and there, no need for tenders… that has to stop. All that is leaking and being stolen must be halted.
“That’s why you need to have confidence that when these things start happening, we will begin to see change,” he said.
The Prime Minister also criticized opposition statements questioning the requirement to declare assets as outlined in the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the government and the opposition.
“They ask why the Prime Minister hasn’t declared (his assets)… I have no problem, I can declare. But no, they claim that declaring assets is a form of torture. They say it’s torture to declare assets, yet I spent over 10 years in prison.
“I don’t want to dwell on that anymore. I just want to ensure this country becomes even greater and more outstanding, serving as the best example (to the world),” he said.
