Kelantan Headmaster’s Remand Extended in Al-Arqam Books Investigation: Court Grants Additional Three Days

MACHANG, Sept 29 — The legal saga surrounding a headmaster of an integrated primary school linked to GISB Holdings (GISBH) continues, as a court has granted a three-day extension for his remand, effective from tomorrow.

Magistrate Amal Razim Alias issued the order following a request from law enforcement, highlighting the serious nature of the investigation. The headmaster, aged 66, was initially remanded for four days beginning September 26, after a significant police operation at Sekolah Rendah Integrasi Ikhwan.

During the raid, authorities confiscated 34 books deemed prohibited under Malaysian law, specifically related to the controversial Al-Arqam movement, which was founded by Ashaari Muhammad.

The investigation falls under Section 8(2) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, which governs the control and distribution of printed materials considered harmful or prohibited. This legal framework is crucial in maintaining public order and protecting citizens from potentially extremist ideologies.
