Skilled Workers Needed for Malaysia’s High-Tech Ambitions, Says Sim

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia must focus on developing local talents capable of filling roles in high-tech industries as part of its strategy to become a high-tech nation, according to Human Resource Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong.

Sim highlighted that major global tech players, including Microsoft, Google, ByteDance, and Amazon Web Services, have made significant investment commitments in Malaysia. These investments signal the nation’s advancement toward achieving its high-tech goals, leading to a wealth of job opportunities.

“This indicates that our country is moving towards hosting high-tech companies and investors. Therefore, we need a skilled workforce ready to take on roles in this industry,” Sim said during the Appreciation Ceremony for National Heroes at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Lyon 2024.

He further emphasized the importance of the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) 2024, held over six days starting September 10 at Eurexpo Lyon, France. Sim proudly referred to the national contingent, participating in the competition, as Malaysia’s Skills Olympics team, marking the first time the group had been formally celebrated.
