SHAH ALAM, Oct 3 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has officially approved the decision of the State Fatwa Committee, which declared GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) a deviant group.
This decision was relayed to His Royal Highness by the chairman of the State Fatwa Committee, Associate Professor Datuk Dr. Anhar Opir, in a special meeting at Istana Bukit Kayangan earlier today. Dr. Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, chairman of the State Islamic Affairs and Cultural Innovation Committee, confirmed the Sultan’s approval.
“The Fatwa Committee’s decision was presented to the Sultan of Selangor, and His Royal Highness has granted his approval. Insya’Allah, we will begin to share this decision through the Friday sermon at mosques and surau throughout Selangor tomorrow,” said Dr. Mohammad Fahmi, as reported by Bernama.
However, he emphasized that before the fatwa could be legally enforced, it must first be officially gazetted. “Only after the gazetting will we proceed with enforcement,” he added.
The decision followed a meeting of the Selangor Mufti’s Department last Monday, during which issues regarding GISBH’s operations within the state were discussed. On September 24, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) presented a comprehensive report on GISBH to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).
This decision marks a significant development in the state’s efforts to combat deviant teachings and unlawful activities within religious institutions.
