TikTok, the short-form video social media app, has announced layoffs affecting several hundred employees worldwide, including a significant number in Malaysia.
Reports from The Edge indicate that these job cuts are part of a strategy by the China-based company ByteDance Ltd. to revamp its operational model.
The employees impacted in Malaysia are primarily involved in content moderation. This shift is seen as a move toward automation, as TikTok aims to enhance efficiency in managing content.
